In the roadshow hall of Uni-Makers Space, the delegation watched the promotional film of UESTC. Prof. Zhou Tao, Director of the Big Data Research Center, briefed the guests on the basic situation of the Center and the innovative practices of UESTC in the field of big data. He combined the cases that big data technologies solved practical problems of economic and social development and analyzed the favorable conditions for the construction of Hong Kong’s Financial Big Data Center. He hoped that the UESTC’s Big Data Research Center would set up sub-centers and financial technology companies in Hong Kong, make full use of big data and artificial intelligence to actively assist Hong Kong in better monitoring of financial risks and provide services for the world by relying on Hong Kong’s various advantages.

In the exhibition area of artificial intelligence products, Mrs. Lamwatched the badminton robots, smart home systems, Yao Ming high-simulation person shooting robots developed by He Fu Institute and medical exoskeleton robots developed by Robot Research Center of UESTC.

Moving, swinging, hitting the ball... When the delegation came to the He Fu Institute, two badminton robots were in PK. This type of robot applies the core technologies of high-speed moving target vision tracking and trajectory prediction and centimeter-level indoor positioning, and is currently the only badminton robot in the world that can autonomously interact with people. Mrs. Lamkept asking questions while watch the robots and expressed her appreciation for the innovation of the team. After the R&D team members demonstrated the badminton man-machine interaction, Wilson Wong, the Director of the Hong Kong SAR Government Development Bureau, could not help but take off his suit and volunteered to play with the robot. The two sides played multiple rounds and won applause from the delegation.

Subsequently, Mrs. Lamhas experienced the smart home system and watched the demonstration of shooting robot, affirming the innovation of the products. The smart home system utilizes Network Communication Technology, Automatic Control Technology, Speech Semantics Analysis Technology, Multi-sensor Fusion Technology, and Internet of Things Technology to integrate home-related living facilities and set up an efficient family schedule management system to improve home safety, convenience, comfort and practicality, creating an environmentally friendly and energy-saving living environment. Shooting robot uses precise visual positioning systems and high-precision trajectory tracking algorithms to accurately determine the position of the basket, calculate the shooting distance and trajectory in real time, and then transmit the calculated results to the center system and feedback to the arms, achieving accurate shooting by adjusting the shooting intensity and angle.

In the medical exoskeleton robot exhibition area, Lin Han, a high-level paraplegic patient, and Ma Zhijie, a Wenchuan Earthquake victim, wore exoskeleton robots and moved slowly, showing the results of rehabilitation training to Mrs. Lamand her delegation. At the opening ceremony of the 9th National Paralympics, relying on this exoskeleton robot, Lin Han “stood up” and completed the torch relay. Ten years ago, Ma Zhijie suffered an amputation of the right leg due to injury in the Wenchuan Earthquake. He was only able to stay in wheelchairs all year round. He just used this device two weeks ago.

“I have stayed in the wheelchairs for ten years, finally, I stand up and I feel so cool!” Ma Zhijie simply expressed the feeling of wearing an exoskeleton robot, “I would like to sing a song Beginning with Love to the Hong Kong compatriots who helped Sichuan. Thank you.” He sang the song Beginning with Love on his album, “Goodness can germinate, love can grow, and you can gently put down the pain in your heart...”

After Ma Zhijie sang his song, there was a warm applause from the audience. Mrs. Lamkindly asked, “How is the body now? How does it feel to wear an exoskeleton robot?” Ma Zhijie replied, “In the past, I was mentally ‘stand up’, but now I’m ‘stand up’ both psychological and physiological.”

Mrs. Lamexpressed her sincere blessings to Ma Zhijie and took the initiative to go on stage to take a photo with everyone. “The technology is advancing with each passing day, and I hope your life is getting better and better.”

During her visit, Mrs. Lamalso talked with Hong Kong youth who study and start businesses in Sichuan. Everyone shared their stories and feelings about working, studying and living in Sichuan, and provided advice and suggestions for further cooperation between Sichuan and Hong Kong. Mrs. Lamsaid that the SAR Government attached importance to the development of innovative technologies and had introduced a number of policies and measures. She welcomed Hong Kong youth in Sichuan and the SAR Government to jointly promote the development of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Office, the Office of Chief Secretary for Administration, and the relevant persons in charge of the various bureaus and the relevant functional departments of the UESTC participated in this activity.
